“The webinar scheduled for Wednesday, March 27 from 3-4 pm ET to discuss updates on the upcoming national hepatitis C virus (HCV) elimination legislation is now postponed.

The bill is still being assessed by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and will be introduced in Congress in the coming weeks after the CBO analysis is complete. Bill text will not be finalized until after receiving a CBO score. The NASTAD Policy & Legislative Affairs and Hepatitis teams are closely monitoring the bill’s progress behind the scenes and will reschedule the webinar when there is a clearer timeline for bill introduction.”

On March 9, 2023, the Biden-Harris Administration debuted a proposal for a national program to set the country on the path to eliminate the public health threat of HCV in the US. The 5-year, non-discretionary program would infuse resources to scale up core HCV services, such as screening, testing and treatment, prevention, and surveillance, and includes a focus on populations that are disproportionately affected by the HCV epidemic. Notably, the elimination bill would introduce a bulk purchasing drug procurement mechanism to link more people to affordable or no-cost direct-acting antiviral treatment for HCV.

NASTAD is working closely with the Biden-Harris Administration, Congress, and public health coalitions to advance this landmark investment for HCV prevention and care. This webinar will cover the latest updates on the bill’s status, cover the key components of the bill, and discuss the next steps to pass the bill once it is introduced in Congress.
