He Palapala Ho'iwai: Returning Home to Community Resource Manual @6:30PM HST

“Please join us on Tuesday, April 25th from 6:30 to 7:30pm via zoom for the release of He Palapala Hoʻiwai: A resource manual for returning to community by Dr. Jamee Miller and Kalei K-Aloha of ʻEkolu Mea Nui. 

The Miller ʻOhana will share their involvement in the justice system and how their non-profit ʻEkolu Mea Nui is working to transform the justice system through Hawaiian cultural values and practices. Hear of uplifting and innovative solutions that restore the human spirit, build resilient ʻOhana and change public policy.

For those interested, This program is approved by the State of Hawaii Department of Health’s Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division (Approval# ADAD-23-144) the National Association of Social Workers - Hawai’i Chapter (Approval HI62792023-57) for up to 1 contact hour(s).

Participants Will:

  • Be introduced to He Palapala Hoʻiwai: A Returning Home to Community Resource Manual 

  • Recognize the importance of cultural, community, and ʻohana connections in healing and returning to community. 

  • Identify that existing language around justice involvement is often stigmatizing and dehumanizing. 

  • Recall how to utilize the concept of “Hoʻiwai” when working with those returning to community. 

  • Discuss past, current, and future policy and legislation surrounding culturally grounded healing and connection for those returning to community.”
