Overdose Crisis and War on Drugs Teach-in @ 10AM HST

WHAT:

  • Join this exclusive training on the roots of the war on drugs and the racial disparities in our drug policies and how that relates to the current overdose epidemic facing our country.

  • We will be joined by movement leaders and folks who have been doing the work to fight for an end to the Overdose Crisis and drug policy grounded in harm reduction and public health NOT incarceration.

  • In 2020, over 100K people died from preventable overdose deaths in America. Join us for this teach-in and discussion on how we can win a future grounded in harm reduction and the love our communities deserve.

OUR AMAZING TRAINERS:

  • Jasmine Budnella is VOCAL-NY's drug policy coordinator, and leads their state and city campaigns to end the drug war and to win policies that promote harm reduction and public health. She also helps facilitate End Overdose NY - a coalition of stakeholders from across New York State that have been impacted by the overdose crisis.

  • Jawanza James Williams is a Black, Radical Queer, Abolitionist and Socialist. He is currently the Director of Organizing at VOCAL-NY, a grassroots organization building power among poor and low-income New Yorkers. He is also a member of the Democratic Socialists of America and a founding member of its Afrosocialists and Socialists of Color Caucus.

  • Amanda Kiger is the Executive Director of Unharming Ohio and River Valley Organizing. After realizing that she couldn’t make the societal change that she was looking for in the several jobs she used to hold, Amanda knew that organizing on the ground was the only way she could make a significant impact.

  • Ellen Glover is the Drug Policy, Harm Reduction, and Criminal Justice Campaign Director at People’s Action working to end the overdose crisis and the war on drugs. Ellen first began as a grassroots community organizer in Chicago in 2010 and is now based in Kansas City, MO. Through her years in organizing, Ellen has worked on various issues including school to prison pipeline, affordable housing, workers’ rights, mental health justice and electoral organizing.
