Viral Hepatitis in HIV from AETC Pacific @3PM HST

AIDS EDUCATION & TRAINING CENTER PROGRAM

PRESENTS VIRAL HEPATITIS IN HIV WITH CHUONG TAN, MD

HIV has a major impact on the natural history, progression, and prognosis related to hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C (HCV) infection. HBV and HCV are viruses that infect the cells of the liver and can lead to cirrhosis, end-stage liver disease, or hepatocellular carcinoma. Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that about 21% of people with HIV in the United States also have HCV. About 5% to 10% of people with HIV in the United States are co-infected with HBV. In this webinar, we will discuss the screening and management of people with HIV co-infected with viral hepatitis.

At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Outline the approach to patients coinfected with HIV and HBV or HCV

  • Summarize treatment and long-term management

  • Demonstrate when referral to hepatology is indicated
